Entrevista con 3D_mike, Mapper Official
 


Una vez más lo hemos conseguido. Esta vez os presentamos una interesante entrevista a uno de los mejores mappers de Counter-Strike del mundo, 3D_mike. Creador de mapas como; de_survivor, de_747, de_deadlock y muchos más, todos ellos de gran calidad.
La entrevista consta de 15 preguntas en las que intentamos abarcar la mayoría de los temas más interesantes y llamativos.

[ AlcaponE ] Hello 3D_mike.
[3D_mike] Hello dude.

[ AlcaponE ] Who is 3D_mike in the professional life?
[3D_mike] 28 yrs ol, 3D-animator an special effects director, 2-time dad and workoholic.

[ AlcaponE ] How did and when you begin creating maps?
[3D_mike] Bout a year ago I stumbled unto Worldcraft for sum reason, thought it was really easy to get into an decided to try an map one. Sort off got hooked after that.

[ AlcaponE ] When you began creating maps, you thought some time, that some of your
creations a map could become Official?.
[3D_mike] Never really considered it untill I started on de_survivor. After de_predator lots of people said it should go official and supported me to submit it. Off course de_predaor didnt get in but I got the idea to make one that could be included. So I made a list of things I thought official maps needed and lacked. I came up with a snowy theme usin the standard cs-map 2 chokepoint strategy.

[ AlcaponE ] What is it what personally, you believe that is search in a map and that
is it more more difficult than you results to obtain in them?.

[3D_mike] Ehm, I sortof lost you there.

 

[ AlcaponE ] TO levels of motor graphic, Not you believe that Half-life, begins has to
be remained a little obsolete, in comparation with the graphic build of
Quake3? An impediment to the hour results of creating maps, since cannot do,
what really would please you.
[3D_mike] I think you mean the HL engine is old? Ok yes it is old bit CS is still hot and while its the best played MOD out there Ill map for it. I love the mappin process, the forum bickerings and the feedback. I dont feel like Im breakin boundries with mapping, in my job I work with bigger 3Dpackages so any form of leveldesign for an online game will be with less detail an polys I could use in for example 3Dsmax.

[ AlcaponE ] There is something that, by limitations of the own one HL, has not been
able to insert in a map?

[3D_mike] Lol, want the whole list? I hear that fog can be added after CSCZ comes out. Theres lots of things that cannot be done with this engine like a factory, you could run around in and afterwards blow it entirely up.

[ AlcaponE ] In a future when exist the CS2, that will use supposedly a motor graphic
advanced style Quake3, you Will Follow doing Maps for him? you Believe that
there will be more possibilities to do better maps?
[3D_mike] I quit like leveldesign and am trying GMAX first, but surely CS2 will be interesting if it ever comes out. I know CSCZ uses the same basics as CS, so Ill most likely look at that first.

 

[ AlcaponE ] Many mappers itself complain of the instability and lack of quality of
the program for development of maps, the WorldCraft. Which is your opinion?,
You are satisfied of the same one?, A better program would please you?, You
use some alternative?

[3D_mike] No, thats whining. The fun thing about mapping is the fact that youve got soo limited resources and so many limitations. I mean online maps are a long way from havin realtime reflections and shadows, let alone the polycount, which is pathetic. Its the trick to use a little as possible and still get an interesting good lookin result. To me thats where the fun lies.

[ AlcaponE ] Many mapper use textures already acquaintances of other maps, and they
have seen in another maps, but for example de_deadlock, that it is a wonder
one, uses custom textures, original, created for him, How do you obtain to
carry out these textures?
[3D_mike] For de_deadlock I used a digicam for the first time. What I really wanted to do with deadlock is map my hometown and see how far you can stretch the engine before the map becomes. For other maps I use stockartlibraries and sum Photoshopskillz.

 

[ AlcaponE ] We have observed, that althoug of your web, you promotes a great deal
to mappers and publishes their creations, that they are exhibited next to
the Theirs. There is some mapper that deserve mention, because of his
quality or delivery?

[3D_mike] There are a few out there that are really really good, Id have to name me partner on deadlock Backslider. Theropod-X (author of de_museum, watch out for it in 1.4) Sratesiz (de_pasta), B@tman (cs_haste) and 3DPunk (de_tegea) are all topnotch and could easily deliver official material. I cant forget Mawibse, cant think of anyone that knows entities better. Oh yeah and N@rby deserves repect too.

[ AlcaponE ] Your present creation is de_747. What does it have you prompting has to
do this map?.
[3D_mike] Well, its basically an old map I left because I thought I couldnt handle r_speeds. But after deadlock I learned some new stuff so I picked it up again. Its a cool concept I think although some people have already tried it. Its anotehr challenge I guess.

[ AlcaponE ] You Believe that will be the I substitute of the old one CS_747?.
[3D_mike] No, de_747 is too different from the standard cs-map crap. Its more like a speedballtypomap.

[ AlcaponE ] Which yourself believe that is your better creation for the CS?.
[3D_mike] de_deadlock was really tricky. I do fancy cs_junior for the crazy fast gameplay.

[ AlcaponE ] As Much as it believes that the hegemony will last of the CS? The
version 1.4 will return to give him a push or the changes that are announced
will not be positive?

[3D_mike] I cant really comment on it. I havent been betatestin due to lack o time. But if the anti-cheats work it must be better then 1.3

 

[ AlcaponE ] It would please You to include some new way of play in the CS that
promoted or produced the production again types of maps? something different
of "de_" or "cs_".
[3D_mike] Yes it would be cool to summin new within the Counter-Strike theme. If the CS-development-team only added a round_end_trigger_entity people could open up whole new perspectives in gameplay.
